F1@Bont
F1 in Schools has been running a short time here at Pontarddulais Comprehensive as an extra curricular club run over lunch times and after school. It began with Bont Panthers who worked their way up from Entry Class (at the end of the pandemic) to Development (Dev) Class and onto Nationals in Leeds 2023 last year.

The information gathered there helped this years teams develop further by Hyperpulse entering the Dev Class and achieved Best Engineered Car & 1st Place. Lightning Racing also achieved Best Engineered Car, Judges Choice (All Classes including Professional) & 1st Place. This led Lightning Racing to partake in the UK National Finals in Rotherham, Sheffield March 2024. The three girls: Ruby, Caitlin & Cari proudly represented our school and brought our 1st Nationals award home. The Autodesk Pressure Challenge Award. This award was achievable by all who took part-this year it was around, if not over 50 teams.

There is talk of Lightning Racing possibly entering Professional Class next year (a first for us as a school). The boys at Hyperpulse: Tomos, Jake, Kenzo & Dax are looking to compete in the Dev Class and hopefully progress onto Nationals afterwards.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the additional support from the parents too as they witnessed how much work is involved but also the reward and opportunity it can deliver to their children.

The teams start from nothing and have to secure sponsorship in the form of financial and service sponsors, in turn showing return of investment through advertising etc. This being said, if anyone out there can point us in the right direction/or help out for any of these sponsor types then please do get in touch with the school to help us get that little closer to the podium for next season and beyond.

We are also looking for donations to purchase a test track with start and finish gates to help test run cars before the competition to develop their designs further before race day.
