RE: Year 9 Options Evening

Dear Parent/Carer,

To support your child in choosing their optional Key Stage 4 subjects we will be launching the options process with an Options Information Evening for parents, carers and Year 9 pupils on Monday 6th February. The evening will commence at 4.30 p.m. and is expected to last for approximately one hour. In the event that you are unable to attend, all relevant information pertaining to the options process will be available on our school’s website [LINK TO SITE], to assist in your child’s decision-making process. Through the school website you will have access to the following:

  1. Options booklet – this will provide information about each subject that your child will be able to choose to study. You will be able to see how each subject is assessed and what topics your child will study during the two-year course.
  2. Options form – there will be a link on the website that will take you to the options form. Your child will need to select three options from the list of subjects and one reserve option. The form needs to be completed by Wednesday 15th March 2023.
  3. Options presentation – the presentation will provide details of the options process including key dates; an overview of the key stage 4 curriculum; and information of who to speak to if your child needs help or support during the process.
  4. Subject videos – short videos for each subject will be available. Teachers will provide an overview of the subject and will discuss units and topics that will be covered during the course.

Following the options evening we will be holding a subject based Parents’ Evening for Year 9 parents and carers. This year the Parents’ Evening will be held virtually on Monday 13th March 2023 using SchoolCloud. You will be able to book an online appointment with your child’s teachers and this will provide an opportunity to ask any subject specific questions. Further details in relation to the Parents’ Evening and how to book appointments will be sent out next month.
