The debate club were lucky enough to be given an opportunity to attend Oxford University for a residential trip and to hone our debating skills and knowledge. We were able to take four year 9 girls; Isobel Mountfield, Lucie Edwards, Marley King and Nikol Jones.

All four girls were fantastic representatives of Pontarddulais Comprehensive School and certainly did us proud across the two days. We were fortunate to have two talks from an Oxford Professor, Dr Matthew Williams, who truly tested our thinking skills – including asking us to ponder not only the meaning OF life, but the meaning IN life at 9am on a Thursday! As well as this, Dr Williams led us on a fantastic and informative tour of the nearby University buildings, including the famous Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Observatory. The girls are now well-prepared to attend a debate competition amongst Welsh schools in February, and we are all excited to show off our newfound abilities!
