March 2023

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The school will be running an expedition to Iceland during February half term 2024.   The trip will take place over 5 days from Saturday 10th-Wednesday 14th February 2024.

The itinerary includes:

  • A swim at the Blue Lagoon geothermal lake
  • Whale watching
  • ‘In to the Glacier’ experience-a ride in an 8 wheel drive truck up on to the glacier and then a walk inside glacial tunnels
  • A visit to Thingvellir National Park; the boundary between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates and visits to waterfalls, including one that you can walk behind
  • Icelandic Horse riding
  • Tour of a geothermal power station
  • Visit to a museum about the 2006 earthquake, including a turn in an earthquake simulator
  • Visit the Geyser fields
  • An evening visit to a geothermal water park
  • This is a good time of year to see the Aurora Borealis, (Northern Lights) fingers crossed!

The total cost of the trip is £1,365. This is an all-inclusive price covering all costs on the trip, including group insurance. The only additional money pupils will need is for spending on souvenirs and lunch on two out of the 5 days. All other meals, transfers, flights, group insurance and accommodation are included.

Please note, the group insurance policy included with the trip only covers the group as a whole, it covers the group should the airline or travel company cancel due to changes in Covid restrictions at a national level.  A full refund would be issued to all pupils in this instance. However, if an individual pupil in the run up to the trip or during the trip itself contracts Covid, has symptoms, has to quarantine due to being a close contact, or any other individual circumstance associated with Covid or any other pandemic, the group insurance policy would not cover this and no refund would be issued.  We therefore strongly suggest that all pupils attending the trip have their own travel insurance policy that covers them for all aspects of Covid 19 and pandemics

A non-refundable deposit of £210 is required to secure your child’s place on the trip. This needs to be paid via the trips and offers section on Squid.

The remaining balance can then either be paid in full, or following the payment plan below on squid:

  • April 1st 2023            £165.00
  • May 1st 2023             £165.00
  • June 1st 2023            £165.00
  • July 1st 2023             £165.00
  • August 1st 2023        Payment break
  • September 1st 2023  £165.00
  • October 1st 2023       £165.00
  • November 1st 2023   £165.00

All pupils who wish to go on this trip must have their own full passport.

Please note, some activities on this trip can be dangerous if rules and safety regulations are not adhered to. If pupils are demonstrating an inability to follow instructions, or are involved in compromising the safety of themselves or others in school in the months running up to the trip, staff reserve the right to refuse travel. In the event a pupil is withdrawn from the trip by the school, parent or guardian, a refund will be issued in the amount as stipulated by the travel company at that point in time; the closer to the time of departure, the lower the amount refunded.  We hope you can appreciate that this is to protect the safety of all staff and pupils and to ensure everyone on the expedition has the trip of a lifetime.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the school on (01792) 884 556.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Gleeson
