Dear Parent/Guardian,

As part of your child’s Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate GCSE they are currently completing the Community Challenge. The Community Challenge is worth 20% of their final grade and to achieve this they must have completed 10 hours of community participation.

We have arranged for pupils to have the opportunity to participate in a range of community participation activities on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th July 2022.  The activity that your child will participate in is “neighbourhood enhancement”, which will take place in Pembrey Country Park and Sandy Water Park.

I have attached a consent form for your child to take part in these activities, please could you complete and return by Tuesday 5th July.

I wish to make you aware of the following:

  • The activity selected may involve physically demanding work such as long walks around the park, picking up litter with and will involve the use of tools under staff supervision.
  • Due to the time of year pupils will be expected to dress in an appropriate manner for the conditions. Clothes that can potentially get damaged need to be worn. Footwear should be appropriate for the task selected. Sun cream, sunglasses and a hat are strongly advised.
  • Pupils will be required to bring a packed lunch to eat and must bring plenty of water to drink.

To enable your child to go on the trip please could you fill in the online consent form here.

All consent forms must be with us by 9.00 am on Tuesday 5th July.

Thank you for your support with this challenge as it will provide your child with a worthwhile and beneficial learning experience as well as contribute to their Welsh Baccalaureate GCSE grade. If you have any questions, please feel free to contract me.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Matthew Culleton

Welsh Baccalaureate Area Coordinator
