Dear Parent/Carer,
Last week the Welsh Government confirmed that Qualification Wales are planning to hold examinations this summer and that all learners in Wales should be working towards preparing for these examinations, supported by schools. The Minister for Education in Wales also confirmed that it is his intention that the examinations will go ahead this year.
The last two years have been extremely difficult for pupils, and in particular our Year 11 pupils, with uncertainty about how they will be assessed and graded this summer. Qualifications Wales have already confirmed that adaptions have been made to adjust grade boundaries to reflect the disruption that learners have faced. The Minister for Education has been clear that examinations are the fairest way to assess all learners, and being held towards the end of the summer term it will maximise teaching and learning time available.
As a school, it is our absolute priority to support our Year 11 pupils and to help them achieve academic success this summer. We felt that it was important to communicate this key information to all pupils, parents and carers as soon as possible.
On the next two pages we have attached the summer examination timetable and other assessment dates that will help you support your child over the forthcoming months. Below are some other key dates to be aware of, including interim reports, speaking assessments and examination dates, and our virtual revision evening for parents and carers that will help you to support your child with revision strategies in preparation for the summer examinations.
Progress Check 3 Interim Reports: w/c Monday 4th April 2022
Virtual Revision Evening for parents/carers: 2nd March 2022
Welsh Speaking Assessments: 4th-6th April 2022
GCSE external examinations: 16th May to 29th June 2022
All pupils will be issued with their individual examination timetables, for the summer examinations, during the week commencing Monday 28th February 2022. This will be an opportunity for you to check and query any examination entries. All examination changes need to be made by Friday 11th March 2022 and any amendments after this date will incur a cost.
