Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 9 Virtual Options Evening

To support your child in choosing their optional Key Stage 4 subjects we will be launching a virtual options information evening on Monday 17th January. Unfortunately we will not be able to hold our usual options evening at the school due to the current restrictions with large gatherings. However, all of the information you will need to help your child decide upon their options will be accessible on our school website. Through the school website you will have access to the following:

  1. Options booklet – this will provide information about each subject that your child will be able to choose to study. You will be able to see how each subject is assessed and what topics your child will study during the two-year course.
  2. Options form – there will be a link on the website that will take you to the options form. Your child will need to select three options from the list of subjects. The form needs to be completed by Tuesday 1st February
  3. Options presentation – the presentation will provide details of the options process including key dates; an overview of the key stage 4 curriculum; and information of who to speak to if your child needs help or support during the options process.
  4. Subject videos – short videos for each subject will be available. Teachers will provide an overview of the subject and will discuss units and topics that will be covered during the course.

Following the options evening we would usually hold a subject based parents’ evening at the end of January to give you an opportunity to speak to your child’s teachers. This year we will be holding a virtual parents’ evening on Monday 24th January using SchoolCloud. You will have the opportunity to book a face-to-face virtual appointment with your child’s teachers and ask any questions relating to the subject. More details about how to book an appointment will be available closer to the event.

If you have any questions in relation to the options process please contact the school and we will be happy to help.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. D Lewis
Curriculum Coordinator
