Year 11 GCSE Results Day

Re: Year 11 GCSE Results Day

Thursday 16th July 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you are aware, GCSE results day for Year 11 pupils is on Thursday 20th August. We understand that this has been a difficult and anxious time for our Year 11 pupils because of the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We know your child will be excited to collect their results this summer, but results day will be very different than in previous years due to the public health challenges involved in potentially bringing together large groups of young people to collect their results.

However, we have made the decision to invite pupils into school to collect their results in person, as we normally would. It will be more important than ever this year to be able to congratulate pupils on their achievements, to console those who haven’t achieved the results they were hoping for, and to advise pupils on their next steps. Your child will have the option of attending school to collect results or to receive results electronically via email. Please complete the online survey to let us know which option you would prefer. It is important that you complete the form so that we can organise results day effectively. If you want results to be sent electronically, please enter your email address when completing the form. The link to the form is:

As we are planning to open our doors to pupils on results day, we will continue to follow the hierarchy of control measures that we have had in place throughout the summer term. Some of these measures include a one-way system and social distancing in line with current Welsh Government and Public Health Wales guidance. To manage social distancing safely and effectively, we will be inviting pupils and parents/carers in to school at designated time slots. Below is a timetable that outlines the time slot for each form class to arrive at school to collect their GCSE results. One parent/carer will be able to accompany their child if they wish to do so. It is essential that you adhere to the times allocated below as you will not be able to enter the school and collect results outside of these times.

Time Room Form group
9.00 – 9.30 am Sports Hall 11P
9.00 – 9.30 am Gym 11O
9.45 – 10.15 am Sports Hall 11N
9.45 – 10.15 am Gym 11T
10.30 – 11.00 am Sports Hall 11I

We will be operating a one-way queueing system and all visitors must enter the school via the leisure centre entrance. Once your child has entered the main building they will be directed to the gym or sports hall. Once your child has collected their results they must exit the building as soon as possible using the designated fire exits.

We ask for visitors to leave the school site as soon as possible and to not gather at entrance gates or doorways.

We must remind you that if your child has coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or if someone in their household has symptoms, they must not attend school to collect results. In this instance we can arrange for the results to be sent electronically.

The statistical standardisation model to be used by WJEC for issuing grades this summer will ensure that all pupils are treated fairly. All pupils will receive centre assessment grades and a range of evidence will be used to calculate the likely grade that a pupil would have achieved, had they been able to complete their assessments this summer. National outcomes will be broadly similar to those in previous years to reduce the risk of unfairness for pupils over time. Individual pupils that are dissatisfied with their grade will not be able to appeal to WJEC. However, pupils can ask their school to check whether they made an error when they submitted the centre assessment data and schools can appeal to WJEC on behalf of the pupil, which is the same as in previous years. More information regarding centre assessment grades can be found on the Qualifications Wales website:—covid-19/summer-2020-decisions/

We are looking forward to welcoming our Year 11 pupils into school again to share their special moment of receiving a successful set of examination results.

If you have any queries regarding results day, please get in touch with the school.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. A. Owens

Deputy Headteacher
