We trust you and your families are all well and keeping safe. We have just completed Week 2 of our school closure and government lock down. Teachers have ensured our school websites are up to date and filled with activities to keep your children busy and their minds active. Teachers have also continued issuing work and setting pupils remote learning activities.
You will be aware that the schools have been repurposed to provide Emergency Childcare Setting for the Pontarddulais Cluster during the coronavirus pandemic. Our setting is based at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School.
In order to deliver appropriate provision and to further mitigate against transmission, pupils are segregated by age, with each age setting based at a maximum capacity. The setting has been running successfully now for two weeks. Places are dependent on staffing availability and control measures in place to mitigate against the spreading of the Covid-19 virus.
The Local Authority initially issued essential worker criteria that was restricted to frontline workers. The criteria now includes other key workers, the list is on the Swansea Council website. The Pontarddulais Emergency Childcare Setting is working tirelessly to meet the increasing need. We are continually reviewing criteria and capacity.
We are following the Local Authority’s priority approach for emergency childcare- those parents employed in the NHS, Blue light services and social care will be given priority. Settings will then consider the needs of vulnerable children followed by applications from other key workers. You might find your situations are changing and believe you are eligible for emergency childcare. If both parents or you as a single parent are now classed as key workers, and you require emergency childcare, we request you email your child’s school. Please submit a letter from your employer, stating the reasons your employer classes you as a key worker.
Please be aware that this provision is not an entitlement, though we shall endeavour to offer emergency childcare based upon need and capacity on a day to day basis. Application will not guarantee your child a place. We will hold a waiting list and contact parents should a place become available due to cancellations. Our setting’s capacity may fall should staff availability be reduced due to self-isolation or on-site infection.
Please remember that the safest place for your child is at home.
The Local Authority’s website states the various Emergency Childcare settings open across Swansea. You may want to contact the Local Authority who can advise you of other settings that may have places available.
