Year 10 Mock Examinations Preparations

6th February 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 10 Mock Examinations Preparations

You should have received a letter, dated 14th January, from Mr. Owens (Deputy Headteacher) regarding key dates and examination timetables (mocks and GCSE summer 2020). This letter is now available to access on the school’s website under the Parents’ Section by selecting ‘Latest Letters’. In preparation for both mock examinations and GCSE examinations in the summer this letter is intended to highlight some useful revision resources. With the mocks starting next Monday 10th February and an INSET day on Friday 7th February this is a timely reminder that pupils should now be well into their revision period. It is important to value the mock examination process in order to gain a true reflection of progress, understand strengths and weaknesses as well as important practise for GCSE examinations later in the year. Outcomes of the mock examinations can be discussed during the Year 10 Parents’ Evening (Monday 9th March).

Mr. Bushnell recently emphasised some revision techniques and examination preparation advice during a recent year group assembly. There are many different methods for revision, individual techniques will suit certain people more than others so trying different techniques now will be of great benefit for the future. A useful website that will give a comprehensive explanation of different ways to revise is ‘BBC Mindset’.

BBC GCSE Bitesize is an excellent electronic resource for supplementing revision in an interactive way for most subjects. The updated ‘BBC Bitesize – Revision app’ is now available to download to both tablets and mobile phones (iOS and Android) providing Bite sized Flashcards and revision materials.
Colleagues have included a range of other useful resources below for core subjects.
